Lasers in Dentistry

You probably know how Lasik—laser eye surgery—has transformed eye care.  Now lasers can be used in dental care as well—and you won’t believe the difference they can make in your comfort and you dental care.

Dr. Bilow is one of the first dentists in Monmouth County to use the new Biolase Water Laser in his practice.  This is one of the only lasers in the world approved by the Food and Drug Administration for use on tooth, bone and gums. 

The Biolase Water Laser allows us to place your fillings painlessly without drills or needles and with laser precision. Because the Biolase Water Laser is so gentle—it causes no micro-cracking of the teeth—it may prevent the need for future crowns or even root canals.  And since the laser sterilizes the tooth as it removes tooth decay, it can reduce the occurrence of tooth decay in the future.  It is truly an amazing tool!

Dr. Bilow also uses his dental LASER to treat embarrassing, uncomfortable cold and canker sores.  The laser offers immediate relief from the pain of these sores and kills the viruses that cause them, allowing fast healing (often within 24 hours).

The Laser Scanner helps us find very, very small areas of decay in your teeth—so small that they can’t be found when Dr. Bilow examines your mouth or even with x-rays.  Why is this important?  The sooner we find and treat areas of decay, the less the damage to your tooth.  With the laser scanner, we can find cavities literally years earlier than ever before, and repair them with a small, invisible bonded filling.  Your tooth will be stronger and last longer!
