Yes.  By using lasers in several ways in our office, we are often able to avoid drilling out areas of decay.

First, we use a laser scanner to look for very tiny areas of decay—areas so small that they cannot be found with x-rays or any other conventional means of detection. Then we use the Biolase water laser to gently and painlessly remove the areas of decay.  Because the Biolase Water Laser is so gentle it causes no micro-cracking of the teeth. It may even prevent the need for future crowns or even root canals.  And since the laser sterilizes the tooth as it removes tooth decay, it can reduce the occurrence of tooth decay in the future.
